Reds reveal Comic Relief plans

Reds support Comic Relief 2013 campaign

Always keen to get in the spirit of it, Salford City Reds have got a number of events and activities in store to promote the upcoming Comic Relief campaign. The big focus will be in the week beginning the 11th of March, culminating in the Reds home match with Warrington on Friday 15th March. Keep an eye open for more details, which will emerge over the next week or so, but the Reds have plans to raise a good few quid for this fantastic cause.

This year there will be lots of opportunities to get involved with. The first being the chance to form a select Salford City Reds fans team to take on a rival Wolves team as part of the half time entertainment of the fast approaching derby clash. The club will shortly use the official Facebook page to invite bids for the chance to take part. This unique experience not only includes your space in the team, but also access to the VIP bar and a stadium car parking pass. We will select the 9 highest bidders from both sides with all proceeds going to Comic Relief.

The sport of rugby league enjoys a fantastic relationship with both the Comic Relief and Sport Relief campaigns with highlights for the Reds last year being taking part in the mile run around Media City in front of the Queen and Prince Phillip as part of the new media hub’s launch event. Featured in the picture here are a number of Reds and Salford City Stadium staff who crawled, walked, jogged and ran the Salford Quays’ based course. Further afield who can forget the Leeds Rhinos team taking to the field for a Super League match complete with Red hair.

The RFL and all clubs are keen to keep the partnership going, which sees us all working on a series of mental health awareness programmes. The Reds are no different with the Salford City Reds Foundation leading on their Tackle Mental Health programme, designed to raise awareness of the help available to local people through partners such as StartinSalford. Throughout the middle of March you will see more and more Comic Relief related activities across the whole of the sport as the campaign gathers pace.
