Doorstep Sports Club

Doorstep sports clubs provide a vibrant and varied sporting offer to young people in disadvantaged communities. Salford Red Devils Foundation has set up 2 Doorstep clubs in Salford and Manchester.

The Salford Doorstep club is based around Albion Academy in the winter and based near the site of the former willows ground in the summer. These areas were chosen as they are deprived areas, with Albion Academy being based close to Salford Shopping Centre (the site of the Salford riots in 2011. The area around the former willows ground was also chosen as it has seen an increase in anti-social behaviour since the club moved to the AJ Bell Stadium.

The Manchester Doorstep Sports Club is based around the Belle Vue area which was identified as an area of deprivation and is the site of an upcoming multi sports stadium which is an ideal opportunity to engage with young people and generate an interest in sports before the Sports stadium is on their doorstep.

The aim of the programme is to engage with young people get them involved with sports in their local community designed to keep them involved with sport and develop a sporting habit. It gives the participants the opportunity to experience different sports in multi sports sessions. By providing different sports we are hoping to equip the young people with an insight into different sports allowing them to gain knowledge, thus enabling them to decide what sports they would like to access and then we can direct them to their local community club to further their development.
