Salford Red Devils Foundation are always on the look-out for the latest rugby talent and any young player who engages in our community development programme has the chance to progress up the Player Development Pathway.
Across our Greater Manchester wide area of operation there are many community rugby league clubs with age groups starting at under 8s, right through to open age. This is the first point for any budding rugby league player.
Players who continue on with their rugby league journey, will start to get the opportunity for international honours and progress into the professional rugby league ranks of the Under 19s environment. This is the final step and success at this level will be met with the chance to feature at First team Super League level.
Every care is taken from a Player Welfare point of view along this journey with each player provided with a range of educational support including the BTEC Level 3 First Diploma in Sport, which is delivered on site at the AJ Bell Stadium.
Danny Barton is a Rugby League Development Officer at SRD Foundation, who is responsible for ensuring the potential is spotted amongst the raw talent picking a rugby ball up at a primary school for the first time. SRDF then work closely with Salford Red Devils Player Performance Unit to channel this raw talent in the best possible way.
SRD Rugby League Development ‘Embed the pathway’
Embed the Pathway is an RFL developed program to help nurture young players along the professional pathway. The aim is for it to be seen as the “national curriculum” for 12-14 year old rugby league players, introducing and developing players, often new to the game.
‘Embed the Pathway’ enables all players to work on aspects earlier in the program to work on key elements of development, reach their potential and grow a greater pool of prospective England players.
Working alongside local amateur clubs and schools we will look to help all local Rugby League players reach their maximum potential.
As part of our pathway we have put together some open access events for Rugby League player’s aged 12 -14 across the Greater Manchester area.
