Sporting Foundations for Life
In mid-2014, Salford Red Devils Foundation and Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation began work on a Sport England funded community project designed to engage young people aged 14-25 from across Salford and Trafford.
Born out of the increased interest in rugby league and cricket due to the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and Ashes Cricket series, the Sporting Foundations for Life programme will see the two Foundations working together in schools, community groups and businesses.
Heavily supported by a partnership with City West Housing and Trafford Housing Trust, the SF4L programme will work in targeted areas offering physical activity sessions to engage local young people.
The SF4L project will identify dozens of volunteers to help support delivery of these sessions as Community Champions. These young people will receive training and sports equipment to allow them to support the full time project delivery team.
Exit routes for the programme will be around encouraging beneficiaries to join their local community rugby league and cricket clubs. Furthermore any budding young player or coach will get the chance to gain more experience from the sports club’s respective talent ID programmes
