Salford supporter to sing at challenge cup final

Salford Red Devils Supporter Stan Sandland has been selected to sing on the pitch at the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final, as part of the ‘Songs of Praise Fans Choir’.

The Choir has been made up by people who have demonstrated their passion for the game and their club by sharing their uplifting, exciting and imaginative stories on how they’ve gone the extra mile to support their club and help the wider community.

Stan was selected for the once in a lifetime opportunity as he was instrumental in setting up the first ever LGBT Rugby League team alongside the Salford Red Devils Foundation, the Manchester Canalsiders.

The Canalsiders who were established in 2013 are one of the partner clubs of the Foundation, who provide them coaching and support to help them deliver rugby league in a structured and safe environment.

Stan is hugely excited and proud to have been nominated for the choir, he told Songs of Praise;

“What more can you want out of life than representing your favourite club at Wembley in the greatest rugby league competition of them all – the Challenge Cup Final. I am delighted that I’ve been given this fantastic opportunity by Songs of Praise to put my years of singing in the bath in to practice and can’t wait until I get on the pitch with my other friends in the choir and sing in front of a packed out stadium live on BBC One.”

The Challenge Cup Final takes place on the 27th of August and will be broadcast live on BBC One.

Everyone at the Salford Red Devils would like to pass on their congratulations to Stan, and wish him luck as he represents the club at the one of the sports show piece events.
