SRDFoundation Tackle Unemployment With Tesco

This week saw SRDFoundation launch Tackle Unemployment 2013, offering members of the Salford Community the opportunity to train and upskill in a variety of areas in order to strengthen future employment prospects.

Whether Sports Coaching, First Aid, Food Preparation or general employment skills, the 6 week course offers attendees a strong leg up in the employment market at no cost to attendees, with transport and food costs covered.

To celebrate the launch of Tackle Unemployment 2013, Salford Red Devils Foundation is delighted to announce Tesco Express, City Towers Salford, as a new ‘Friend of the Foundation’, having pledged a charitable donation to support our ongoing community activities here.

To mark this event, the Foundation team and Neville the Devil were invited to the store to cut the ribbon on the grand reopening new revamped City Tower store at Salford Quays, launching a new ‘Hot Food’ section, the first of its type in any of the Tesco stores in the UK.

Des Burgess, New Business Manager of the Foundation, said, “We are delighted to welcome Tesco Express Salford Quays to the Friends of the Foundation scheme, and very much welcome the donation they have made to support Foundation activities.

“We are pleased to have been invited to officially opening of the newly revamped store, and recognise the continued investment businesses are making in Salford and what this hopefully means to the area and our communities.

“As part of our Tackle Unemployment 2013 scheme we are enthusiastic to be working with our Foundation Partners to create a bank of job and employment opportunities, and been referred two retail roles here at the store to refer to our scheme attendees and Foundation community members seeking employment.

“This is exactly what the Tackle Unemployment Scheme was created to do, upskilling unemployed members of Salford Community while sourcing subsequent employment opportunities. We are thankful to Tesco Express for doing so, and look forward to continued participation with them through both the Tackle Unemployment 2013 and the Friends of the Foundation scheme.”
