Tonga Team Building

Thursday (24th October) saw two of the Salford Red Devils Foundation new apprentices (James and Jay) get the chance to join in on a team building session with the Tonga Rugby League World Cup Squad.
The session saw the full 24 man squad taking part at Challenge 4 Change, The indoor experiential learning facility while taking the Foundation apprentices under their wing.

The group including stars from the NRL and Super league was led by Penrith bound Brent Kite with players such as Saints Willie Manu, Huddersfield’s Ukuma Ta’ai and Sydney Roosters grand final winning winger Daniel Tupou

The squad took part in various tasks such as an aerial assault course and climbing the Elvis pole with the aim of working on the teams cohesion and communication. They were also more than happy to allow the young lads to join in with them as Ukuma Ta’ai and Willie Manu working together with James completed the Jacobs ladder challenge in one of the better times of the day.

James stated “This is one of the highlights of my career at the foundation to be able to work with Rugby League internationals of such high calibre having only been on my apprenticeship for just over 3 weeks fills with me great expectations for the rest of my time here. What more could you ask for, even Fui Fui Moi Moi who is so good they named him twice now knows my name. This is just the start, next week I get to meet the Australia team.

Neil Blackburn Education Projects Manager said “With the Rugby League World Cup on our doorstep we looked to do as much as we can with our apprentices to give them as much experience as possible of elite level sport and this was just one of those opportunities.”
