Salford Red Devils to launch Wheelchair Rugby League
The Salford Red Devils Foundation are proud to announce that they will be launching a brand new Wheelchair Rugby League scheme, delivering the sport in schools.
Wheelchair Rugby League has been growing rapidly in recent years, and is a unique sport, in that it allows disabled athletes to compete alongside abled bodied competitors.
The programme will be delivered in partnership with Salford Community and Voluntary Services, and will begin with a six week delivery at Oakwood Academy and Springwood Primary School, which will introduce both mainstream and SEN students to the game, and will culminate in a festival involving both of the schools.
Foundation Health Manager Joanne Shepherd has been heavily involved in organising the launch of Wheelchair Rugby League, and is looking forwards to seeing the game taken into local schools;
“It’s going to be fantastic to take Wheelchair Rugby League into schools. This is something new for us at the Foundation, and its really good that we’re now able to offer the sport as fantastic way to get active for those with disabilities.”
The Foundation are committed to developing the game of Rugby League in all forms, and are looking forwards to making strides in Wheelchair game.
