Big success of 1st Manchester Nines

 

 

Friday 9th October saw the inaugural Manchester Nines hosted at the Manchester Regional Arena, with Manchester Rangers and Salford Red Devils Foundation teaming up to support the event.


Rugby League players and fans alike came together to be a part of the breath-taking, fast paced action that is Nines Rugby League and the occasion did not disappoint. At the first time of asking, the tournament was a major success with every Manchester based Rugby League club taking part and thoroughly enjoying the occasion. With 6 teams taking part on the night, Manchester’s Rugby League community was very well represented.


Manchester Canalsiders, Mancunians RL, University of Manchester Rugby League, Manchester Metropolitan University Rugby League and 2 teams from Manchester Rangers RLFC making up the cohort of teams.


The event was played out over 5 rounds, under floodlights, in the shadow of the Etihad Stadium. Some fantastic rugby was played out with Manchester Rangers Black and Manchester Metropolitan University winning through to the final. A pulsating tie was played out before the Rangers team claimed the inaugural victory with Manchester Metropolitan University's Blake Mahovic being awarded the player of the tournament
