LCCC SRDF secure funding for new project
Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation and The Salford Red Devils Foundation secure £307,900 to deliver the ‘Sporting Foundations for Life’ project
Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation, in partnership with Salford Red Devils Foundation, have
successfully secured £307,900 from the Sport England Community Sport Activation Fund, Trafford
Housing Trust Community Panels and City West Housing Trust to deliver the ‘Sporting Foundations
for Life’ project over the next 3 years as part of a total project worth £370,400. It is among 88
projects to receive a share of £15 million of funding to support grassroots sport activity across the
country.
‘Sporting Foundations for Life’ is a joint project between the LCCC Foundation, Salford Red Devils
Foundation, the five Trafford area Community Panels and City West Housing Trust to deliver a
programme of informal sporting activity across the communities of Trafford and Salford, capitalising
on the legacy of the Ashes Test Match and Rugby League World Cup in 2013. The project aims to
increase the once-a-week participation levels of 14-25 year olds living within housing association
properties by establishing needs driven activity in 20 identified local communities. The two Project
Activators will recruit local volunteer Community Champions and train them up to develop, deliver
and maintain Activation Programmes and Informal Central Venue Leagues which will be used to
promote increased levels of sports participation.

to get into sport in a way that best suits them. The investment being made through the Community Sport Activation Fund is making a real difference at a very local level. I’m
particularly pleased that more than half the funding is going into projects in deprived areas, helping more people develop a lifelong sporting habit.”

opportunity for both Foundations to expand their reach into local communities, promoting the
sports of cricket and rugby league and using the professional clubs’ brands to engage and inspire
young people.”

our partners to continue the legacy of the Ashes and Rugby League World Cup. This fantastic project
will benefit residents in our communities across Salford and increase the opportunities for everyone
to get involved in these sports.”
Elaine Johnson, Managing Director of Localities at Trafford Housing Trust (THT) added, ‘THT is proud
that the five THT Community Panels collectively recognised the benefits of this project and decided
to get involved. It will make a real difference to the lives of young people by bringing sport close to
local communities and using it positively to develop life skills, employment and volunteering
opportunities. It might also provide us with a future international sporting star!’
The Community Sport Activation Fund is investing a total of £47.5 million of funding over five
funding rounds. Already 156 projects have shared in £27.2 million of funding over three rounds,
receiving grants of between £50,000 and £250,000 to provide grassroots sport at a very local level.
