NHS Blood Drive at the AJ Bell Stadium

NHS Blood Drive at the AJ Bell Stadium

Monday (16th December) saw the visit of NHS Salford to the AJ Bell Stadium as part of their ongoing blood donation activities, complimenting their seasonal blood drive activity.

Supporting the event, donating his blood, was Salford Red Devils Foundation Health Officer Danny Doherty, taking time out prior to his Xmas holiday, who joined many others in the converted fans bar at the stadium to kindly donate their blood perhaps to the benefit of saving someone’s life.

Donated blood is a lifeline for many people needing long-term treatments, not just in emergencies. Your blood's main components: red cells, plasma and platelets are vital for many different uses.

Health Officer Danny Doherty said, “As Foundation Health Officer, of course I was keen to support the NHS in their blood drive today at the stadium, as it really is a worthwhile contribution most people are able to make.

“With around 25% of us requiring a blood donation at one time or another in our lives, I felt, specifically as a health care professional, that I had a responsibility to do my bit and make a donation.

“All the staff here today are working hard, and it’s great to see so many familiar faces here also giving their time to donate blood. What a fantastic way to end the year through making the donation, and perhaps saving someones life this Christmas”.
