Nines RL arrives in Manchester

Red Devils support new Manchester 9s event

On the evening of Friday October 9th the Manchester Regional Arena will play host to the inaugural Manchester Nines. Teams from community clubs Manchester Rangers, Mancunians and Manchester Canalsiders have all signed up to take part alongside student teams from the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. Supportedby the Red Devils, the first match will kick off at 6 30pm with the winners decided by a top of the table clash under floodlights.

In the first year, the competition will feature purely Manchester sides, however year 2 and beyond will see teams from further afield invited. With a new brand, website and social media presence the Manchester Nines identity will have the famous worker bee, so long associated with the city and its diligent nature, at its centre.

Spokesman for Manchester Nines Phil Fitton added “we are delighted to announce Manchester as a new venue for the fast paced nines format of rugby league. Rugby League is making great strides in the city with the rapid development of the community game and it is fitting to host the first edition as the Super League Grand Final descends on the area”

Mark Brocklehurst of Salford Red Devils Foundation says “the Red Devils have been committed to growing rugby league in Manchester for a long time now and the announcement of the Nines is another in a long list of success for the sport in the city. It is great news and we are delighted to be involved”
