Sporting Foundation For Life Community Champion

The Sporting Foundations for Life project has gone from strength to strength. The successful partnership between Salford Red Devils Foundation and The Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation has engaged many 14-25 years olds. Delivering sport, specifically rugby league and cricket, in the Salford and Trafford areas. We hoped to influence the target age group by using sport as a positive tool to bring young people and their communities together, creating community champions and increasing participation in sport.

Once a month we like to evaluate and celebrate our achievements. We do this by choosing a Community Champion. The community champion is a volunteer that has given up their time for the programme and gone the extra mile showing commitment and helping others.  For the month of September this is Abu Bhana. Abu is 17 years old and lives in Old Trafford he attended Stretford High School and has grew up in Trafford. Abu has volunteered with Salford Red Devils Foundation and attends all of the home and away Reds fixtures. Successfully increasing his knowledge and confidence from volunteering with Sporting Foundations for Life Abu can now plan and deliver a session that is fun and enjoyable.

Abu commented "I enjoy coaching and giving back to my local community, I have gained a lot of confidence from volunteering and working with my peers at the Red Devils. I hope one day to become a sports coach and volunteering with Sporting Foundation for Life programme helps me get one step closer to doing this."
