SRD Foundation Tackle Mental Health

SRD Foundation raise awareness through Tackle Mental Health Programme

SRD Foundation have been successful in securing 1 year funding from Salford CVS for 2015 to raise awareness through our Tackle Mental Health programme.

We are working with Salford High Schools delivering thought provoking assemblies with our Health Ambassador, Stephen Hindley, talking about his own personal experiences of mental health issues and how he hopes his experiences will enlighten others.

Schools we have engaged so far, such as Buille Hill and Oasis, have found the assemblies very helpful in raising awareness of there pastoral support and enabling them to broach sensitive questions with pupils.

Thankfully issues around mental health are becoming more and more open within the public domain and sport, in particular Rugby League, raising awareness around mental health issues and continuing to remove any associated stigmas.

The aim of Tackle Mental Health is to address the stigma around mental health issues of those residing in the City of Salford.

Working with young people aged 14 to 24 years and males aged 30+ using the first hand life stories of our SRD players and SRDF health ambassador. SRDF will incorporate a 'Tackle Mental Health' element to existing activities and work in partnership with organisations such as NHS Salford and local mental health charity Start in Salford to deliver a comprehensive awareness campaign that targets local sports clubs, businesses and community groups.

There are a few simple steps we can all take to improve our well being such as;

Connect... Talk and listen to the people around you. With family, friends, colleagues and neighbours.

Be active... Indoors or outdoors. Alone or with others. Go for a walk. Play a game. Garden. Dance. Exercising makes you feel good.

Take notice... Be curious. Notice the unusual or beautiful things in every day. Take time to think about what really matters to you.

Keep learning... Try something new. Rediscover an old interest. Join a group or take a course. Learning new things will help make you more confident as well as being fun.

Give... Do something nice for a friend, or a stranger. Something as small as a smile can be a huge gift. Offer your help as a volunteer or friend, and feel part of the community.
