Supporting The Canalsiders at Pride 2015
Salford Red Devils are pleased to announce our support for ‘The Canalsiders’ at Manchester Pride, this August Bank Holiday weekend.
The Canalsiders are the first LGBT Rugby League club in the United Kingdom and The SRD Foundation has supported them since their beginning in 2013.
We have regularly joined forces for events, including promotional days on Canal Street, Rugby League fixtures and regular coaching days throughout the past two years.
We fully support The Canalsiders vision of creating a more diverse landscape within Rugby League and raising awareness of LGBT society.
The Canalsiders team will be at Manchester Pride this coming weekend with a special float, raising awareness and celebrating pride at what is sure to be a brilliant weekend. Their float is being DJ'd by Danny Beard - a renowned LGBT DJ living in Manchester, originally hailing from Liverpool.
Thanks to the kindness of Tesco, The Canalsiders will be running their float thanks to a Tesco lorry and driver. "Every Little Helps!" And it is brilliant to see Tesco committed to the LGBT community. Alongside support from Tesco and The Salford Red Devils, Rhino and RL Cares have been particularly supportive of the side.
The Canalsiders will be present at both the Pride Parade - where they will be on their Tesco float - and at the Expo, offering attendees the opportunity to find out how they can get involved and sign up.
Any Rugby League fans are invited to join in the festivities on the Pride float, please turn up at Liverpool Road on Saturday at 11am, wearing your club kit, ask a steward to find out where the team are.
They are recruiting new members, both male and female, to be a part of their first-of-its-kind LGBT Rugby League team.
The theme of Pride this year is 'devotion'. As such, The Canalsiders are devoting their float to their passion to change the sporting landscape and attitudes toward LGBT sports, particularly within Rugby League.
