Trafford Activity Paying Off For Salford Red Devils

We at the Salford Red Devils Foundation are delighted to celebrate the growing success of our Trafford activity. With 2 amateur clubs now in full swing, further success is also signified by 3 young players from Trafford Borough being signed to the Salford Red Devils Rugby League Scholarship scheme, hopefully in preparation for a professional career in the game.

The North Trafford Titans from Stretford, and the South Trafford Raiders of Altrincham entering their 2nd season having both added an additional age group team. While both teams experienced mixed fortunes on the pitch, SRDFoundation community coach Danny Barton is pleased with first season progression and excited for next year’s development.

Danny said, “For a lot of the lads in the team’s last season was the first time they played the game, so the development has been pleasing. There all young, keen and eager to kick on so there’s a lot of reason to think that next season should see a step up to the next level.

“It’s great to see the development of Rugby League in the region as Trafford hasn’t traditionally produced a wealth of Rugby League teams or talent. However, with the success of last season’s Schools Trafford Cup, as well as our work with Stretford High and Sale High, things are changing fast.

“This is perhaps best reflected with Kyle Gabbidon (left) and Adam Challenor (right) from Stretford High, and Kane McCurdy from Wellacre recently signing for our Academy here at the Salford Red Devils, so hopefully we might have some future stars on our hands”.

With Danny and the Foundation team committed to continued investment in Trafford, building up community clubs, school partnerships and other community activity in the area, hopefully future talent will continue to be identified from within Trafford, complimenting the Salford Red Devils squad while contributing to future on pitch successes.
